Conversations with Tatum 2

The podcast is moving quickly, we have our first two episodes live!

Here is what we have gotten done this week:

Step 5 "Get Your Podcast Artwork Created" was completed as you can see below in the podcast player. This process was fairly simple and cheap, I payed the freelancer $20 to complete the task. I would recommend using Fiverr if you already have a good idea of what you want the artwork to look like. Here is what I sent as my order requirements "Looking for podcast artwork for a family podcast call 'Conversations with Tatum'. Tatum is a 7-year-old boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. Looking for some options." I attached the picture that was used as the artwork. I was hoping for a couple of options, but I'm satisfied with the end result.

One thing that isn't discussed in the guide is the intro and outro music. It is something that is important to have. I did a little research about royalty free music and decided that I didn't want to learn all of that, so I decided to make my own. I used GarageBand on our iPad and put some loops together and created our intro/outro music.

Once that was completed I had everything ready to record our first episode. Step seven in the guide is "Recording Your Episode". So, Tatum and I sat down and did an outline for the first episode. It was a fun experience, I walked him through the outline I had put together and let him know what questions I would be asking. The first episode is just an introduction episode, so the questions were fairly easy for him to answer. He took notes on what he was planning to say and then we started recording.

After our "pre-show" meeting, we went straight into recording the episode. We wrapped it up and as the guide says, editing is how the magic happens. I used Audacity to record and edit the episode, there is a great video in the guide that does a great job of walking you through the key features needed to get an episode up and running, which is step 8 "Edit, Export, and Publish Your Episodes". I ended up using Buzzsprout to host and publish the podcast. They also make step 9 "Submit Your Podcast to Directories" very easy and painless.

All in all, I went from recording the first episode to having it up on Spotify in about 3 hours. We are in the process of letting the world know about our new show (step 10) and making money with our podcast (step 11), enough to cover the minor costs of the software and website. We have our Patreon page live.

Looking forward to adding some more episodes and getting to spend some time with my son!
